Peaceful School — a place of safety and care where Want to learn
Peaceful Schoolis an integrated, comprehensive model for building relationships and communication within an educational institution, aimed at creating a safe, peaceful environment in the school community by preventing violence and bullying and reducing conflict.
The model engages all participants of the educational process in discussion, decision-making, or conflict resolution:teachers, students, parents, and school administrationThis fosters cooperation and partnership among them.

Peaceful School made the children open and straightforward: they share more about themselves and are not afraid to communicate. Sometimes I notice that teachers have switched places with the students: the students often share more than the teachers. Teachers and students are now on the same level. For example, in my class there were children who were afraid to communicate and be proactive. The exercises brought them out; they became braver, more open, saw their classmates and teachers differently, became more assertive, and are not afraid to speak about themselves.

I had long dreamed that our school would have a mediation service, and with Peaceful School we were able to launch it. Our goal was to teach students to resolve conflicts properly and to help teachers communicate with and support the children.
Now we have daily morning meetings led either by class teachers or teacher assistants, and we also have practical sessions with a psychologist, social pedagogue and organizer-teacher. We hold various themed meetings, including exercises we learned from the Peaceful School trainings.

Peaceful School gave me an understanding of how to achieve conflict resolution and introduced me to mediation and the profession of mediator.
Most of all in life I use the understanding that a situation does not always look the same from both sides, and Peaceful School taught me that beyond conflict contexts. Also, if you want to be the third person in a conflict between two friends, you must act as a neutral party.
This project was created within the “Peaceful School” initiative, supported by the German government through a joint contribution of the forumZFD Program Office in Ukraine and the Civil Peace Service of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH. The project is implemented jointly with the NGO “Institute of Peace and Understanding”, the Ukrainian Scientific and Methodological Center for Practical Psychology and Social Work, and the Institute for the Modernization of the Content of Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
