On 28 September, an open online presentation of the Institute of Peace and Understanding (IMiP) project 'Peaceful School' took place.

More than 200 educators from across Ukraine participated in the event, including school administrators, teachers, practical psychologists, social educators and others.

'Peaceful School' is an integrated, comprehensive model for building relationships and communication within an educational institution developed by IMiP. Its goal is to create a safe, peaceful environment in the school community by preventing violence and bullying and by reducing levels of conflict.

During the project's implementation, which had the status of an educational experiment since 2019, our model was implemented in 10 educational institutions. The project has now received approval from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine as a nationwide educational experiment and has been recommended for use in schools.

The presentation covered the following topics:

  • key aspects of implementing the 'Peaceful School' model in educational institutions;
  • changes and advantages of applying the Model in the educational process;
  • the Project's relevance during the full-scale war;
  • stages of Model implementation and conditions for participation.

In addition, in an open-dialogue format, participants had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss all aspects related to practical implementation of the Model. This meeting format allowed educators to identify the main benefits of the initiative for their school.

The event's speaker was IMiP board chair and Model expert Aliona Horova.

"The 'Peaceful School' Model was developed so that educational institutions would change and become a place where teachers, children, parents and school administrators would want to return, grow and receive support. For this we chose a systemic approach that involved all participants in the educational process in the process of change," noted Aliona Horova.

The next stage of the Project is planned to be the selection of 20 schools from different parts of Ukraine in which the 'Peaceful School' model will be implemented. These educational institutions will have the opportunity, with IMiP's support, to put this initiative into practice and help establish a safe, harmonious atmosphere in their educational environments.

The announcement about the selection of educational institutions to implement the model will be published soon on our websites and social media pages.
