Aliona Horova, Chair of the Board of the Institute of Peace and Understanding, took part in a live broadcast of the "Third Sector" program on KYIV FM.
Among the key topics: they discussed involving citizens in the recovery process and the need to apply the principle of inclusivity in Ukraine's post-war reconstruction.
"Inclusion translates as 'including' and implies a process of considering the interests of different population groups when making decisions about a community. When we talk about reconstruction, inclusion means engaging the public in the processes and decisions concerning the restoration of that territory," emphasized Aliona Horova.
According to her, when starting and implementing reconstruction measures during the war, it is important to balance resources directed to recovery with the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"Active efforts to rebuild our country give the sense that life continues and that we are drawing closer to victory. At the same time, this builds cohesion and resilience in Ukrainian society. When we speak about involving the public in these processes, it is not only about physical reconstruction but also about building a strong foundation of national consciousness," the speaker noted.
Maximally including the interests of different population groups helps prevent polarization and radicalization of society that may arise during the recovery process. For example, it is important to take into account the interests of large groups such as veterans. Otherwise, this will negatively affect the recovery process and may cause additional consequences for the community.
In conclusion, Aliona Horova urged Ukrainians to unite and take part in all processes related to the restoration of their communities.
"I would recommend contacting local government authorities to learn about plans and priorities for recovery. It is also worth trying to involve civil society organizations that work on these issues and can help," she said.
