NGO "Institute for Peace and Understanding", in cooperation with the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict and UN Women in Ukraine, with the support of the United Nations Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF), are implementing the project "HER PERSPECTIVE" ("Enhancing the capacities of internally displaced young women in Ukraine to participate in peacebuilding").
Project duration: 12 months.
Project objective
To promote social cohesion between internally displaced young women and host communities in 5 regions of Ukraine
and develop women's capacity to participate in political processes aimed at reconciliation and reconstruction.
The project involves 5 communities from 5 different regions of UkraineNovovolynsk, Fastiv, Vasylkiv, Zdolbuniv and Cherkasy. In total, the project involves more than 70 women aged 18 to 35.Half of them are local representatives of the communities where the project is implemented, and the other half are internally displaced persons residing in those communities.
After the communities were selected, two people from each community were invited to a facilitation training. Afterwards, two teams (up to 10 people each) were formed in each community; together with facilitators and under the guidance of experienced mentors from the film industry, they worked on creating their own video stories highlighting the issues facing women in Ukraine in the context of the war.
The project aims to support the integration of young internally displaced women and girls into new communitiesand teach them participatory video-making tools that will make each of their stories visible and their voices heard.
The practical experience gained by participants through the project is an important driver of social development. When it can be reflected on with support for oneself and others, it becomes a factor that strengthens the social fabric and restores connections within the country.
United Nations Women's Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) is the only global mechanism established solely to support women's participation in peacebuilding, security and humanitarian efforts. Managed by representatives of civil society, governments and the UN, the WPHF is a multi-partner trust fund that mobilizes urgently needed funding for local women-led organizations and works with women on the front lines to build lasting peace. Since 2016, the WPHF has funded and supported the capacity of more than 1,000 local women’s civil society organizations working on the Women, Peace and Security agenda and delivering humanitarian activities in 41 crisis-affected countries.
