In Kyiv DreamKyiv with the support of the Center for Human Rights Information and the International Renaissance Foundation presented the results of 100 days of operation of the service bezpechne.community.

The presentation took place on 26 September.

On the online platform that DreamKyiv launched on 31 May, users can mark safety issues in their neighborhood and receive advice from authorities.

Service administrators cooperate with the patrol police, legal clinics of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, free legal aid centers, and Kyiv's contact center 15-51. Specialists from these bodies explain how to resolve the problems reported by users of the bezpechne.community service.

"Our platform is a communication platform. Residents can be confident that the police will learn about problems, and the police will know what is happening in their district," – explains Anastasia Bahniyproject coordinator at DreamKyiv. At the same time, she says, the service should not solve Kyiv residents' problems but only provide instructions on how they can handle them themselves.

In 100 days the service processed almost 400 appeals from Kyiv residents. They most often concern traffic violations, poor road conditions, public order violations, illegal trade, the illegal drug trade and owners of large dogs.

According to Yevhen Mamushkin, an officer in the patrol police's public relations department, the service also performs a preventive function.

We encourage people not to be shy about pointing out violations. You can simply ask someone to move their car if it's blocking the way; you don't need to wait for the police to arrive.he emphasizes.

The presentation received informational support from the Center for Information on Human Rights.

When we in the organization thought about developing community policing in Ukraine, we thought that projects needed greater promotion. We need more stories about how they developed and what their social impact is, she says Lyudmyla Yankinaproject coordinator at the Center for Information on Human Rights.

Anna Voloshenko, head of strategic communications at the International Renaissance Foundation, which supported the site's creation, emphasizes that community policing is a strategic priority for the foundation.

I could compare safety to happiness. All people are equally happy, but unhappy in their own way. The same applies to safety: it is the same for everyone, but the dangers people face are different. Such services help identify sources of danger, she says.

Residents of Poltava and Mykolaiv are ready to launch the service in their cities.
