On 16–17 May the Verkhovna Rada hosted the "Information Fair – 2017" — an exhibition-presentation of organizations providing technical, analytical and advisory assistance to the Verkhovna Rada.
Center for Information on Human Rights presented the first results of community policing (police-community interaction) in Ukraine. This approach means that the police operate taking into account the community's views on safety and public order in their service area. It is an ongoing collaboration with residents and local authorities to build a shared safe environment.
Project coordinator at the Center for Information on Human Rights Lyudmyla Yankina presented projects already implemented in Ukraine by various NGOs in cooperation with local authorities and the police, and exchanged experiences with representatives of other NGOs. More than 50 NGOs and analytical centres took part in the event.
According to her, one of the most frequently asked questions concerned the stories of activists and police officerswho began addressing inconsiderate parking in Kyiv using leaflets. Activists placed leaflets with parking rules on vehicles that were parked improperly.
DreamKyiv activists believe the community needs to develop a parking culture. This can be achieved through flash mobs and other activities in collaboration with the patrol police.
