At the Kyiv Civil Society Organizations Forum"Cooperation and Development" On 23 May the main principles, foundations and values of implementing the Community policing concept in Ukraine were presented.
The CoP concept was presented by the project coordinator from the "Center for Human Rights Information" Lyudmyla Yankina, representatives of the patrol police Kateryna Beluhina and Oleh Maksymchuk, and also a representative of the civic organization "Kyiv of Dreams" Anastasiia Bahniy.
Participants in the presentation emphasized that proactive collaboration and mutual trust significantly increase the chances of success when implementing projects aimed at improving safety levels in communities.
More than 300 active representatives of the public, donor organizations and the media took part in the Forum, where they agreed on joint actions. They agreed, in particular, that on May 24, when school police officers will, together with children from one of Kyiv's schools, tidy the square at 37 Kostyantynivska Street; suppliers of structures will join them "Dog Toilet" of the LavHav brand and will install such structures in the square.
The presence of the police at the event attracted lively interest. Many participants approached the officers to ask how joint projects could be implemented.
"Police participation in such events quickly shortens distances and breaks down stereotypes. At the same time, people begin to change their perceptions of the police and see opportunities for themselves",– comments Liudmyla Yankina.
The Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko during his address expressed support for all initiatives presented at the event and encouraged those present to cooperate with the Kyiv City State Administration (KMDA).
